Why it matters
SYBUNT donors have been quiet longer than LYBUNT donors, so they need a different approach. A plain appeal often misses. A note that names their last gift and tells them what it made possible gives them a reason to read on.
The list also tells you how leaky your file is. If your SYBUNT list is long and full of people who gave once, the gap is usually in what happens after a first gift. That is the place to fix first, because each new name costs far more to find than an old one costs to keep.
How Steward shows it
SYBUNT sits next to LYBUNT under Who stopped giving in Steward's Reports. It lists everyone who has given before but not this year, with their last gift, lifetime giving and owner, and it downloads as a CSV or a PDF.
Related terms
- LYBUNT LYBUNT stands for "last year but unfortunately not this year." It is a donor who gave to you last year and has not given yet this year.
- Reactivation Reactivation is when a lapsed donor gives again after a gap, usually a year or more. It also names the outreach you do to make that second start happen.
- Lapsed donor A lapsed donor is someone who gave to your organization in the past but has not given within the period you expect, most often twelve months or more.
The free Lost & Found audit reads a giving export in your browser and shows your lapsing donors and what they used to give. Nothing is uploaded. Then bring the same file to a 20-minute demo.
