Why it matters
A screening can point to donors whose giving to you is small compared with what they could do, which helps a small team decide whom to visit first. It is a starting point for a conversation, not a verdict, and the estimates are often wrong for individual people.
Screen with care. Donors can be uncomfortable when an organization knows too much about their finances, so keep the results to the people who need them and never mention them to the donor. A donor's own giving history and closeness to your work usually tell you more.
How Steward shows it
Steward does not run wealth screenings. If a file from your old donor system carries a screening's rating, capacity or date, the import keeps them as written and never folds them into Steward's own figures.
The "Proven capacity" filter in the donor directory groups people by the largest and most consistent giving they have actually done with you, from your own file only.
Related terms
- Capacity Capacity is an estimate of how much a donor could give if they chose to, usually over several years, based on their wealth and income rather than on what they have given so far.
- Affinity Affinity is how strongly a donor is connected to your organization and its cause: how much they care, how involved they are, and which parts of your work matter most to them.
- Major gift A major gift is a gift large enough that your organization handles it personally, with visits, a tailored ask and close stewardship. The dollar threshold is set by each organization, not by the sector.
The free Lost & Found audit reads a giving export in your browser and shows your lapsing donors and what they used to give. Nothing is uploaded. Then bring the same file to a 20-minute demo.
